Manager, Sensory Design manages the sensory program for R&D
within the Snacks Division, works closely with R&D partners and
other key stakeholders to drive alignment and coordination of
sensory programs and projects.This reports to the Director R&D
of the Snacks Division and is part of the Enterprise Sensory
Community of Practice. The role manages 2 direct reports.The Senior
Manager provides thought leadership to frame and evolve strategic
focus areas for new and emerging sensory methods. The successful
candidate will assess organizational needs and provide sensory
recommendations and testing solutions based on their strong sensory
expertise. This role is eligible for relocation assistance and is a
Hybrid position!Office Location: Camden, NJPrimary
Responsibilities:Provide strategic leadership in recommending and
executing the product & consumer testing for the Snacks portfolio
(e.g., Goldfish, Snyder's of Hanover pretzels, Kettle Brand Potato
Chips etc.) Collaborate and partner with R&D to ensure the best
design / method used to achieve project objectives.Partner and
collaborate with Strategy and Consumer Insights to create learning
plans and execute with maximum impact.Drive sensory & consumer
knowledge building for key attributes of products, packages &
technologies; understand design to consumer value concepts and
tools.Act as a senior member within the Enterprise Sensory & Flavor
team. Provide support in integrating and sharing synergies, best
practices & collaboration opportunities across Enterprise.
Collaborate when appropriate with Integrated Insights
organization.Provide program direction and guidance for staff of 2
sensory scientistsManage consumer testing budget and prioritization
of spend against the Snacks programs with collaboration and
guidance from the Director R&D. Continually look to minimize
testing costs and improve cycle time, while balancing requirement
of high quality testing standards.Establish testing methodologies
and develop a portfolio of methods and external providers to best
serve the R&D technical community. Continually look to expand
capabilities and speed to market options. Improve quality of early
insight & guidance to reduce rework and gain improved
predictability for validation at back end.Advance the strategic
direction of Sensory & Consumer Science discipline including
internal vs. external testing. Scope and assess emerging testing
methods and partners, opportunities for consumer knowledge
advancement, and the longer-term organizational needs.Network
effectively with industry peers and influence the thinking of the
internal sensory strategy.Accountable to measure and improve the
success of our innovation - both new products and Design to Value
improvement of current products.Lead training within R&D on
Sensory & consumer understanding. Advance Qualitative research
skills for gaining design insights. Ensure disciplined technical
approach & rigor within the teams.Key Skills:Strong understanding
of Sensory & Consumer Science as a discipline and various testing
methods for qualitative and quantitative research. Demonstrate the
ability to effectively utilize sensory science to understand
product features and consumer value. Ability to analyze and
interpret statistical data and apply design of experiments to
sensory evaluation testing.Ability to collaborate, communicate and
partner with business and technical teams bringing strong POV
recommendations for testing options & design that will answer the
key project questions. Provide direction and strategy to the team
and operate with a customer service/supplier mindset.Knowledge of
external network of providers & suppliers. Ability to build
relationships and partner with external testing providers on
design, delivery, and results. Stays abreast of new and emerging
testing methods through connection with academia and sensory
associations.Strong sensory technical knowledge across emerging
methodologies. Ability to bring creative thinking, demonstrate
strong problem-solving abilities and provide leadership and
technical direction to the cross functional teams to challenge and
elevate the sensory and consumer testing of the
organization.Requirements:MSc with 4-7 years work experience in
Sensory field OR has a BSc with 10+ years work experience in
Sensory fieldCPG (Consumer Packaged Goods) experience with big
brands and track record of supporting innovation, quality
improvement and cost saving initiativesExperience in data
collection systemsAdvanced course work in statistics, design of
experimentsBasic Market Research - experience in qualitative and
quantitative research methodologiesDemonstrated track record
providing sensory guidance with a significant ROI (return on
investment)#LI-HYBRIDCompensation and Benefits:The target base
salary range for this full-time, salaried position is
between$105,000-$172,200Individual base pay depends on work
location and additional factors such as experience, job-related
skills, and relevant education or training. Total pay may include
other forms of compensation. In addition, we offer competitive
health, dental, 401k and wellness benefits beginning on the first
