MedStar Health, a leading non-profit healthcare organization in the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia region, is seeking a Coding Specialist I to join our team. This role is crucial in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of medical coding for our healthcare services, which range from primary care to advanced surgical procedures. The Coding Specialist I will be responsible for analyzing and interpreting medical records and assigning codes to diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10 and CPT coding systems. This position ensures adherence to established coding guidelines and legal requirements, thus safeguarding our revenue cycle processes and maintaining compliance with federal and insurance regulations. Review patient medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS. Ensure compliance with established coding guidelines, payer policies, and federal regulations. Collaborate with healthcare providers to verify required information and discuss any discrepancies in documentation. Participate in routine audits and coding reviews to ensure accuracy and completeness. Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records and adhere to HIPAA guidelines. Stay updated with coding guidelines and reimbursement reporting requirements. Proficient in ICD-10 and CPT coding systems Strong analytical skills and attention to detail Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work independently and in a team environment Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the AAPC or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by AHIMA preferred
