Short DescriptionThe--Vice President, Surgical Service Institute--will be responsible for --the development and implementation of the SSIs mission, long-range strategic plans, goals and objectives as well as physician practice operations and clinical services. The VP will provide administrative leadership for the entire range of programs within the department.-- The Vice President will manage a comprehensive range of programs with the objectives of improving the quality/value of services available to patients and physicians, and improving overall profitability.-- Overview PROGRAM PLANNING AND EVALUATION

  • Work closely with Medical Director to develop and implement the vision and direction of services for the health system.
  • Develop and implement a strategic business plan that focuses on improved financial performance for the service line. The plan will also include a capital budget, operating budget and new technology forecasting.
  • Responsible for P&L of pertinent divisions and departments.
  • Expand and develop coordinated multi-disciplimary programmatic offerings.
  • Represent Cooper in business venture development with outside institutions and physicians.
  • Develop a marketing plan for the service line in conjunction with Strategic Planning and Marketing.
  • Assist in the development of facility plans for the service line consistent with strategic and marketing plans.
  • Assist in the in development of new and existing managed care contacts for the department and help to resolve discrepancies with existing contracts.
  • Develop ongoing systems for evaluation (qualitative, fiscal performance) of all new and existing service line programs.
  • Monitor legislative and reimbursement changes, technological advances and hospital trends to identify issues critical to service delivery.
  • Assist with development of programs and relationships that attract dedicated philanthropic support.PATIENT CARE MANAGEMENT
    • Collaborate with medical staff, other departments and staff to direct and coordinate medical and nursing management of high quality patient care both in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
    • Create an efficient and smooth referral process.
    • Communicate and collaborate with primary care and other specialty providers that will generate high physician satisfaction as well as patient centered experience.
    • Stimulate the development of new approaches to patient care management in order to facilitate the continuum of patient care, to promote high quality care in a cost effective manner, controlling resource utilization.
    • Guide the development of the department's philosophy, policy, procedures and standards, as related to customer service and operations management.
    • Provide direction to educational programs for patients, families and the community.
    • Work with Marketing team and leadership council to evaluate the success of these interventions and implement change as needed.OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
      • Develop and implement strategies to improve patient access working with other departments, medical staff, and support staff.
      • Oversee day to day operations of the department at all locations ensuring efficiency and profitability.
      • All program initiatives result in service line growth, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
      • Assist with developing an organization structure that promotes effective leadership and aligned decision making.
      • In consultation with the respective clinical directors, chairmen or designees, determines and implements the most user-friendly, efficient, cost-effective and quality-oriented system of providing patient/physician services.
      • Assists Medical Director with evaluation, development and implementation of new programs and program modifications necessary to provide leading edge services in the region.
      • Reviews, on a regular basis, all reports including variance reports, operations reports, and other reports as required for appropriate budget analysis and troubleshooting/problem resolution.
      • Collaborate with physician leadership and other clinical staff to continually improve patient satisfaction scores for Surgical Services.
      • Assist in the development and maintenance of a performance improvement program, which includes measurable standards of care, and an evaluation system, which documents the continual improvement within the service line and compares with external benchmarks, when available.
      • Assures that all service line programs meet The Joint Commission, HCFA, state licensure and other accreditation standards.QUALITY MANAGEMENT
        • Collaborate with Continuing Medical Education and physicians to develop and offer annual CME programs educating community physicians and clinical staff regarding the services and offerings of the department.
        • Assist with the development of a committee responsible for defining policy, monitoring programs, addressing clinical practice issues and representing the service line to public and professional audiences.
        • Assures that all service line programs meet The Joint Commission, HCFA, state licensure and other accreditation standards.
        • Collaborate with Continuing Medical Education and physicians to develop and offer annual CME programs educating community physicians and clinical staff regarding the services and offerings of the department.
        • Assist with the development of a committee responsible for defining policy, monitoring programs, addressing clinical practice issues and representing the service line to public and professional audiences.
        • Assist with medical staff development and physician recruitment.
        • Help to facilitate communication between administration and medical staff.MARKETING & COMMUNICATION OUTREACH
          • Develop and implement strategies to enhance/develop relationships with key referral sources (internists, family practice physicians, nurses, social workers, etc.).
          • Lead the development of a common community image and branding strategy that is recognized as a leading heart program.
          • Spearhead and monitor a comprehensive community service/outreach program for the service line, designed to meet the specific needs of its population as well as those of the larger community served by CHS.
          • Conduct research on physician/patient satisfaction relative to the service line, and develop appropriate responses to problems.STAFF DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT
            • Maintain regular staff meetings to ensure adequate communication and interaction with direct reports.
            • Assists supervisor and staff in the understanding and administration of CHS policies and procedures.
            • Hire, coach and counsel staff, administering corrective action where required.
            • Communicate and share information with staff on a regular basis.
            • Keep employees informed of new policies, procedures, new programs and other pertinent information.
            • Conducts annual staff performance evaluations in a timely and meaningful manner.
            • Complies with hospital and System policies regarding confidentiality.Experience Required
              • In-depth knowledge of strategic planning and business development.--
              • Require demonstrated experience in Disease-Based Care, Physician Network and Hospital Development
              • Experience working with budgets and financial management.--Education Requirements
                • Masters Degree required (MBA, MHA, MA).----
