- Participates in receiving of reports and walking rounds.
- Count narcotics with on-coming nurse and outgoing Tour Nurse
Counter signed with initials.
- Performs special assignments given by HN/designee which
includes checking and documentation of the:
- Code cart includes defibrillator
- Accucheck
- Food refrigerator temperature
- Environment temperature
- Complete performance assessment of patients assigned.
- Checks doctors order, administers medications and
document.
- Assists in serving patient meals and in feeding patients.
- Renders bedside care to assigned patients.
- Ensures patients are turned/position changed and placed out of
bed or chair as ordered.
- Assists MD in procedures.
- Continuous monitoring of patient and reassessment of patient's
condition.
- Performs treatments and procedures as ordered/indicated to
patients and document response.
- Provides care for patients on ventilators and other lifesaving
equipment/gadgets.
- Performs admission discharge and/or transfer of patients.
- Ensures clean and safe bedside environment for the
patient.
- Takes part in and advocates patient/significant other teaching
and discharge planning.
- Refers problems encountered on unit to HN/designee for further
assessment.
- Venipuncture/initiating intravenous therapy.
- Hanging blood, plasma and blood derivatives. (Note: First unit
of blood must be done w/MD20.
- Passing/irrigating nasogastric tubes.
- Changing surgical dressings following 24 hours post-op.
- Defibrillation.
- Cardio/pulmonary resuscitation.
- Deep suctioning of tracheo-bronchial tree.
- Monitoring:
- Central Venous/Pulmonary Artery pressures
- Intracranial pressure
- Arterial Line pressure
- Measuring:
- Pulmonary wedge pressure
- Cardiac output
- Maintaining the integrity of all arterial and venous
access.
- Taking 12 Lead EKG.
- Patient/family education.
- Participates in Unit PI Activities, project and in-service
programs.
- Participate in multidisciplinary conferences and
discussions.
- In absence of Head Nurse, be prepared to be in charge.
- Chart/documentation on all patients assigned.
- Record, maintain and update nursing care plans to ensure
continuity of careMinimum Qualifications
- A valid New York State license and current registration to
practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State;
and
- Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and
current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the
American Heart Association (AHA).Special NoteFor assignments in
Post-Acute Care ONLY, individuals meeting the following criteria
may also be considered for appointment: Graduation from a nursing
education program registered by the New York State Education
Department (NYSED) as licensure qualifying for Registered
Professional Nurse (RN) and has applied for licensure as an RN.
These unlicensed individuals may be employed to practice under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN for up to 90 days immediately following graduation
pending receipt of a limited permit, which selected candidates must
apply for and receive within the same 90-day period. Once a limited
permit is received, individuals can practice nursing, under the
immediate and personal supervision of a NYS licensed, currently
registered, RN at a NYC Health + Hospitals health care setting for
up to one (1) year from the date of issuance of the limited permit.
In addition, must hold or obtain through facility orientation, a
valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through
