SHORT DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Documentation Improvement Program (CDIP) Manager provides a key role in facilitating long-term success of CDIP by partnering with the CDIP Director to provide day-today general oversight of the CDI program at the facility level. The CDIP Manager will work in collaboration with the CDIP team of clinicians, coding professionals, physicians, physician s assistants and certified registered nurse practitioners to ensure accurate and timely clinical documentation in the medical record that supports the coding process in attaining appropriate DRGs based on sound clinical entries in the medical record. The CDIP Manager is responsible for increasing program awareness (team members, CDIP process, program benefits) to the entire hospital staff. The CDIP Manager must fully understand data collection and analysis for hospital and physician profiling. The CDIP Manager will support ongoing communication and education on documentation opportunities, coding and reimbursement issues, as well as performance improvement methodologies to physicians and entire hospital staff. The CDIP Manager will function as the Steering Committee (administration) co-chair and participate in CDIP Task Force (CDIP Team) meetings to provide all around oversight of the CDIP program.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Bachelor of Science in Nusing
Experience: RN with Bachelor s Degree or 8 years relevant experience as outlined below:
* Minimum 5 years CDI experience
* 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience, formally or informally
* Clinical background with history of working in a critical care area preferred
* Extensive knowledge of official medical coding guidelines, ICD-10, MS-DRGs, APR-DRGs, and AP-DRGs
* Ability to analyze and interpret medical record documentation and formulate appropriate physician queries
* Ability to benchmark and analyze clinical documentation program performance.
Required License/Certifications/ Registration: * Registered Nurse, BSN or higher
* CCDS, CDEO or CDIP
* Preferred coding credentialed CCS, will accept CRC
* Current CPC, CCS-P Coding Certifications optional (CCS and CRC encompasses some of these principals)
* Valid driver s license in good standing, with proof of insurance
Other Qualifications: * Current with federal legislation, periodicals and publications establishing current coding/reimbursement compliance
* Advanced computer skills: PC experience with Windows based applications (word, excel)
* Ability to prepare and analyze data to drive performance and priorities for improvement
