General Summary
The Manager, Co-Manufacturing Procurement position supports the imbedded Co-Manufacturing Snacks team (Pepperidge Farm and Snyder/Lance) on all strategic initiatives related to the relationship management, contract negotiations, category portfolio, new co-man sourcing, and direct material procurement for approximately $110MM of co-manufacturing sales.  The Manager will work with the Director Co-Manufacturing, Procurement in the development of key strategies and objectives for the Snacks business.  

This role will require strong cross-functional alignment with R&D/Innovation, Finance, Supply Chain, Buyers, Co-Man Managers, and the Global Strategic Sourcing team (GSS).  This role will act a the key liaison between the co-manufacturers and their Procurement co-workers regarding the procurement and management of Indirect and Direct materials, including but not limited to the reporting and tracking of savings generated from integration and aggregation of like items/categories.     

This role requires solid co-manufacturing business acumen in addition to strong analytical, project management,, interpersonal, and contract negotiation skills. The ideal candidate must be comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment.  

Principal Accountabilities

Strategic Accountability: Time Allocation 60%

  •     Support multiple segments and categories within the Snacks business including but not limited to Chips, Cookies, Crackers, Popcorn, Nuts, Breads, and other snacking products
  •     Support the negotiations of complex agreements and focused relationships with strategic Contract Manufacturers resulting in approximately ~$110MM+ in spend
  •     Assistance with development of overall Co-Man strategy and specific business unit objectives based on research, analysis and overall business needs, related specifically to Procurement, Sourcing, and SRM best practices.
  •     Provide Executive influence and support to multiple cross functional stakeholders at senior leadership level (internally) to align and make decisions
  •     Promote, lead and execute against cross-functional company programs such as Enablers and other cost management initiatives
  •     Ensure CSR goals and objectives are consistently being met across the internal and co-man networks
  •     Provide connection and support to the Global Supply Chain Leadership Team as well as the Global Procurement Leadership Team

Operational Accountability: Time Allocation 40% 

  •     Establish re-occurring meetings with Snack Co-man Managers to review and support ongoing projects
  •     Provide KPI results for Snacks, to be included in greater department rollups and presentations
  •     Support Supplier Scorecard creation and management for Snack co-mans
  •     Engage directly with Procurement Buyers on procurement opportunities in Direct and Indirect goods and services; managing best cost scenarios on a category and co-man basis.
  •     Manage and report all financial savings against assigned target for the Snack business; work directly with Finance on the audit and approval of deliverables
  •     Support all GSS sourcing initiatives, related to new co-man sourcing in the Snacks space
  •     Lead initiatives to deliver against working capital targets (i.e. payment terms, inventory management, etc.)

  •     Must be able to deal with ambiguity and be comfortable in an work environment with much change

  •     Exceptional skills in developing, influencing, and driving direction and moving strategies forward
  •     Working for a NEW team, and helping to establish the foundation to support short and long-term goals and objectives

Job Specifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree required.  Masters a plus.
  • Years of Relevant Experience: 3-5 years of relevant experience in Contract Manufacturing or other Supply Chain related roles (Procurement, Planning, Commercialization, Business Operations, etc.).  Experience in Baking and/or Snacking environments a plus.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Required

  •     Strong skills in developing, influencing, and driving direction and moving strategies forward
  •     Strong Executive Influence and Executive Presence with Executive Stakeholders (internal, external) to influence, anticipate, and adapt to drive strategy and business needs
  •     Strong skills in proactively creating a positive, high performing culture by developing, coaching, and connecting with all levels 
  •     Strong manager effectiveness in defining clear responsibilities and expectations for core and extended team members and proactively coaching and managing team members against set goals 
  •     Strong skills in relationship building, communication, project management, decision making, and problem-solving capabilities
  •     Seasoned contract negotiator
  •     Must have excellent proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially MS Excel and PowerPoint a must
  •     Good communication and presentation skills
  •     Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  •     Naturally curious, a self-starter, analytical, and results-oriented
  •     Demonstrated performance of results in a matrix environment and/or with multiple companies
  •     Strong analytical, written and oral communication skills, decision making/problem solving and influencing
  •     Work without direction and determine own methods to accomplish work
  •     Systems experience with SAP a must; experience in Oracle a plus

Working Conditions

  •     Normal corporate office environment. 
  •     Business Travel within North America 40%, with a higher frequency to the Snacks headquarters in Norwalk, CT and Charlotte, NC. Travel to Canada as required.
