Do you thrive in a diverse, highly collaborative and dynamic environment?Are you an organized, self-motivated individual who is passionate about solving technical and logistical problems, leading aspects of multiple activities, and serving as an integral member of a vibrant innovation team?Do you have experience in a maker or rapid fabrication style work space?If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL.We are seeking an Innovation Lab Technician to support our redesigned Innovation Lab, which provides staff with access to rapid digital and physical prototyping tools and equipment like laser cutters, waterjets, 3D printers, AR/VR headsets and much more! As a member of our team, you will contribute to the overall success of the Innovation Program by supporting engineers and scientists that are addressing critical challenges of our nation. Your excellent organizational and problem-solving skills will keep our equipment running efficiently, our consumables at the right quantity and optimize facility functions. Your engagement with staff and visitors by leading tours, outreach through internal communication channels and supporting hosted events will help foster a highly collaborative, fulfilling, and lively environment!As a Innovation Lab Technician:

  • Your primary responsibility will be the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the lab including providing support and responding to requests for assistance, executing equipment maintenance - both scheduled and ad hoc, and handling inventory and basic procurement needs.
  • You will train on various capabilities and machines as well as develop and detail processes for instructional material that establishes training standards for equipment and tools.
  • You will lead tours through the lab space and support campus-wide events.
  • You will work with the innovation team to develop enhancements to the lab.
    Qualifications

    You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you...
    • Possess a 2-year degree or a minimum 2 years of recent IT, engineering or related work experience.
    • Have the ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems; independently resolve varying problems using current job knowledge and using research and external resources and contribute to new processes and approaches
    • Have basic hardware, software and networking troubleshooting experience.
    • Have excellent communication skills and are comfortable with speaking in front of various sized groups of all levels.
    • Are willing and able to work on dynamic projects, have the ability to prioritize numerous concurrent tasks in a dynamic environment, and work occasional extended hours as needed.
    • Are able to obtain a Secret level security clearance. If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information.       • Possess a Bachelor's degree in an IT-related or engineering field
      • Have 3D modelling and printing, physical fabrication, and/or coding experience
      • Have 2+ years' experience in a maker lab facility
      • Have software experience with Linux, Microsoft Windows and Apple OS
      • Have experience with CAD, 3D modeling and media editing software
